Kept promises help build trust between individuals and strengthen relationships. It helps create bonds that sometimes last forever and can even pass on to generations in some cases.
Broken promises ruin relationships (sometimes temporarily and sometimes permanently) and close the gate of trust. It also reduces one's integrity and creates a life-long wound in the receiving person's heart and soul. No matter how much the relationships improve in the future but there is always that little gap which pops out in some form or the other at a later stage. Some intellects argue that promises are meant to be broken but that is a deceptive thought and projects a negative mindset.
The victims of broken promises often have mixed feelings and reactions based on the severity of the associated hurt level. Financial promises if broken lead to quarrels, legal hassles and often criminal activities. If it’s a failure of an elected government to stick to their election manifesto, next time the public votes them out even if it means choosing another promise breaker. If it’s a case of an employee not getting his due from the management it leads to reduced motivation to perform, bad-mouthing and spread of negative energy all resulting in business loss and later on contribution to attrition count. There can be multiple such cases but with an exception of a parent failing to keep the promise to his child of buying him a toy. I say it an exception because a child's mind and heart are so pure that such broken promises fail to affect him for a long time OR rather say it scientifically to be the inefficiency of the underdeveloped brain and memory to retain such events for a long duration.
No matter what we do in life we should always remember never to hurt the most important person in our life which is none other than OURSELVES. Promises made to oneself should be kept at any cost because it helps improve self-confidence, brings in a discipline in our life and most importantly increase the probability to keep our promises made to others. If one cannot keep up to self-made promises how will he do it for those made with others? This might sound simple and straight but needs a very strong willpower to not to give up to materialistic temptations and a person who passes this test climbs up a stair closer to God. This is hard to achieve but not impossible. It is a kind of meditation in itself.
I hope the readers would benefit from this little thought of mine. It’s not a preaching but a guide to lead an esteemed life and build on stronger relationships.
Try it as I am in the process of implementing it and reap the benefits resulting from it.
